Fish Sale
Each spring and fall the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District holds a fish sale for pond stocking. We generally offer hybrid sunfish, bluegill, redear, channel catfish, largemouth bass, grass carp, crappie, fathead minnows and when available, walleye and muskie. We get our stock from Logan Hollow Fish Farm. They will bring a truck based on the number of fish that are ordered. The fish are counted and placed in a plastic bag with pure oxygen. Transportation of the bags is made easier if you have a clean 5 gallon bucket to set the bag in. If you order the 8 – 10 inch channel catfish, you will need to bring a container of water from your pond as this size is too large for a plastic bag. See below for order form and other details.
Pond Stocking Rates:
For Fulton County, Illinois Department of Natural Resources recomends for a new pond 500 - 750 sunfish, 70 - 90 Largemouth Bass and 70 - 90 Channel Catfish per surface acre of your pond. If you have a weed problem, you may want to consider controling them with Grass Carp. We recomend 3 -8 per surface acre dependant on how severe the infestation of weeds is.
